Fall 2024 in iBio

  • Zoology 275: Biology of the Dinosaurs

Biology, ecology and evolution of dinosaurs. Use anatomical correlates and phylogeny to understand physiology, adaptation, and evolutionary transitions. Examples include predator-prey interactions, the evolutionary transition to flight, and how late Mesozoic ecology gave rise to our modern world.

  • Zoology 303 - Aquatic Invertebrates

The form, function, development, basic physiology and ecology of the freshwater and marine invertebrates in the context of their environment. Study live invertebrate specimens, their habitat selection, adaptation and diversity.

  • Zoology/Env Studies 315: Limnology and Conservation of Aquatic Resources and Zoology 316, Limnology Lab

  • Zoology 400-003 Evolution of Species Interaction

Natural selection is the process that’s invoked to explain both the extraordinary diversity of phenotypes and the precise fit between organisms and their environment. We will explore the causes and consequences of natural selection driven by other species (i.e., species interactions). Importantly, these interactions cause both focal organism and its environment to evolve, a process known as coevolution. The outcomes of coevolution range from obligate mutualisms to antagonistic arms races, including some of the most rapid evolution that has ever been observed. The course will examine the history of the science of coevolution, theoretical models for how interacting organisms might evolve over time (including basic computational simulations of these models), and empirical data from a variety of systems.

  • Zoology 400-004: Mammalogy

This is a lecture and lab course where you will become familiar with all aspects of mammalian biology and diversity. Topics covered include the origin, evolution, and unique adaptations of mammals, anatomy and morphology, behavior, life history, and biogeography. We will study all orders of mammals and the most important families found all over the planet with an emphasis on North American mammals.

  • ZOO 570: Cellular Biology

Cell Biology offers an illuminating journey into the captivating realm of eukaryotic cells, unveiling their intricate complexity and remarkable organization. Through interactive lectures and discussions, students will cultivate an appreciation for the beauty of the cellular machinery while gaining insight into the principles and concepts governing cellular behavior.

  • ZOO 603: Endocrinology

An introduction to the role that hormones play in a variety of physiological processes and behaviors from a molecular to a systems level. Topics include hormonal involvement in growth, development, homeostasis, reproduction, and behavior, with an emphasis on vertebrate systems.
