Kahoot! - Wikipedia
Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform,[3] used as educational technology in schools and other educational institutions. Its learning games, "kahoots", are user-generated multiple-choice quizzes that can be accessed via a web browser or the Kahoot app. Kahoot! can be used to review students' knowledge, for formative assessment,[4] or as a break from traditional classroom activities.[5] Kahoot! also includes trivia quizzes.[6] Kahoot! was founded in 2012 by Johan Brand, Jamie Brooker and Morten Versvik in a joint project with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. They teamed up with Professor Alf Inge Wang and were later joined by Norwegian entrepreneur Åsmund Furuseth.[2] Kahoot! was launched in a private beta at SXSWedu in March 2013 and the beta was released to the public in September 2013.[2]

Reverse jigsaw - Wikipedia
This is one of the newest methods created by Timothy Hedeen under the cooperative learning techniques used in classroom settings. It follows the same principle as the original Jigsaw method. The jigsaw technique in the cooperative learning methods uses a small group structure to facilitate group discussion through which the learning takes place. The reverse jigsaw method also resembles the original jigsaw method in some way but has its own objectives to be fulfilled. While the jigsaw method focuses on the student’s comprehension of the Instructor’s material, the reverse jigsaw method focuses on the participant’s interpretations such as perceptions, judgements through a very active discussion. This method was mainly created to cater the higher class students. It is best advised to give an explanation before the discussion the topics takes place. This not only ensure that the learners are more effective in their discussion but also saves time. It differs from the original Jigsaw during the teaching portion of the activity. In the Reverse Jigsaw technique, students in the expert groups teach the whole class rather than return to their home groups to teach the content.[1]

Seventh grade Lesson DNA - The Molecule of Life | BetterLesson
To engage and assess student prior knowledge I conduct a formative assessment probe. This probe gives me baseline data which I can use to modify my lessons objectives. The formative assessment probe is as follows: Four friends were talking about human DNA, genes, and chromosomes. They each had different ideas about where these structures were found. This is what they said. Nancy:"I think DNA is found on genes." Breanna:"I think chromosomes are found on genes."

Guided reading
Guided reading is an instructional practice or approach where teachers support a small group of students to read a text independently. Guided reading sessions are made up of three parts: The main goal of guided reading is to help students use reading strategies whilst reading for meaning independently. Guided reading is informed by Vygotsky’s (1978) Zone of Proximal Development and Bruner’s (1986) notion of scaffolding, informed by Vygotsky’s research. The practice of guided reading is based on the belief that the optimal learning for a reader occurs when they are assisted by an educator, or expert ‘other’, to read and understand a text with clear but limited guidance. Guided reading allows students to practise and consolidate effective reading strategies.

Climate Crisis and Ocean Warming | the Shape of Life | The Story of the Animal Kingdom
The earth is an ocean planet. Covering 70% of the globe, the ocean absorbs about 90% of the atmosphere’s heat. The world’s oceans interact with the global climate and weather: oceans influence the climate and weather locally and globally; and the climate can change the oceans. Using Climate Stripes you can see how much your region has warmed between 1906 and 2018. This graph shows the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as of December 22, 2018.

Analyze & Design Projects: Citizen Science with Zooniverse - Activity
Students learn that ordinary citizens, including students like themselves, can make meaningful contributions to science through the concept of "citizen science." First, students learn some examples of ongoing citizen science projects that are common around the world, such as medical research, medication testing and donating idle computer time to perform scientific calculations. Then they explore Zooniverse, an interactive website that shows how research in areas from marine biology to astronomy leverage the power of the Internet to use the assistance of non-scientists to classify large amounts of data that is unclassifiable by machines for various reasons. To conclude, student groups act as engineering teams to brainstorm projects ideas for their own town that could benefit from community help, then design conceptual interactive websites that could organize and support the projects.

Tree of Life Web Project
Darwin 200: the celebration continues... read more The Agaricales, or euagarics clade, is a monophyletic group of approximately 8500 mushroom species...read more The Tree of Life Web Project (ToL) is a collaborative effort of biologists and nature enthusiasts from around the world. On more than 10,000 World Wide Web pages, the project provides information about biodiversity, the characteristics of different groups of organisms, and their evolutionary history (phylogeny). Each page contains information about a particular group, e.g., salamanders, segmented worms, phlox flowers, tyrannosaurs, euglenids, Heliconius butterflies, club fungi, or the vampire squid. ToL pages are linked one to another hierarchically, in the form of the evolutionary tree of life. Starting with the root of all Life on Earth and moving out along diverging branches to individual species, the structure of the ToL project thus illustrates the genetic connections between all living things.
