Band Members

Xtract is made up of experienced and professional musicians with a diverse background. All our instrumentalists have decades of experience honing their craft and have played in-front of large audiences.

  • Xtract’s Leader & Drummer - Clint Harris

    Clint has been a musician since the age of four. He has experience playing various instruments from organ to cello…from marimba to timpani. He got his start in elementary school, middle school, and went to a performing arts high school. Clint also continued to expand upon his musical journey in college and beyond. Some of his musical musings are inspired by James Brown, Steely Dan, Raphael Saddiq, Prince, D’Angelo, Sade, Chaka Khan, Thelonius Monk, Carmen McCrae, Patrice Rushen and many more. In the past, he has played with bands that include famous musicians such as: Clarence Clemons, John Toomey, Woody Beckner, and the Armed Forces School of Music. In addition, he has written and produced many tunes from jazz to rhythm and blues. His greatest musical accomplishment has been the opportunity to merge his talents with the talents of the vocalists and instrumentalists that make Xtract come alive.

  • Lead Vocalist - Chenelle Blackman

    Chenelle Blackman comes from an amazing family of singers and musicians. Chenelle began signing at her family church in Brooklyn, NY at the age of three and had her first solo in an elementary school play at the age of nine, and has been singing ever since. She studied and majored in choral studies and music theory for more than seven years throughout high school and college. Chenelle has been blessed to perform in some of the biggest stages, events and venues in the USA including Lincoln Center and the Apollo Theater.

  • Saxophone & Flute - Vernon Jones II

    Hailing from Prince George’s County, Vernon Jones II started playing the saxophone at the age of eight. In 2006, he got exposed to playing jazz at the University of Maryland’s Summer Youth Music Camp. There, he took a jazz workshop and instantly fell in love with creating his own music, and not just playing what other people have written. While he attended DeMatha Catholic High School, jazz saxophonists Chris Vadala and Antonio Parker mentored him. Vernon also plays the flute, piano and bass guitar in addition to the saxophone.

  • Percussion - Stan Brown

    Stan Brown born and raised in Richmond, Virginia.The oldest of three brothers, Stan started playing drums with the Huguenot High School band. He graduated from Virginia State University with a Bachelor's of Science degree. He also plays for Woodstream Church in Mitchellville, Maryland. Stan is married to Gina Brown with 2 sons and one grandson.

  • Past Guitarist (Lead & Rhythm) - Ira Grossman

    Jazz, R&B, funk guitar player Ira Grossman has performed with Washington, DC songstress NiQue, Timeless Vision Band, and most recently R&B artist Niko Allen in Miami, who just finished his new project. Ira’s been influenced by and had the privilege of spending time with John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell in the 70’s and is back again playing in Florida and Maryland.

  • Past Guitarist (Rhythm & Lead) - Jordan Lovinger

    Jordan is a 25 year old up and coming singer-songwriter and sit-in guitarist in the Washington DC area. He has studied under local greats such as Matt Kelley, Pete Muldoon and Jon Epley. When playing with Xtract Jordan covers both rhythm and lead guitar.

  • Past Piano and Keys - Timothy Bias

    Tim is the Musical Director for R&B international and national artist Ginuwine. He can read sheet music, learn new songs quickly by ear, arrange music, record stem tracks and mix them for live shows. He is very highly skilled on both piano and trombone.

  • Keyboards - Emanuel "Turk" Taylor

    Turk hails from the Eastern Shore of Maryland (specifically Denton). He began expanding his musical expertise by playing lead guitar and then switched to an instrument that suited his musical taste...piano. He studied briefly with John Malachi, Maria Rodrigues. He then expanded his horizons with the addition of classical styling with Martha Blakey and Peter Patente, Currently, Turk is adding to his musical portal with Wade Beach.

  • Bassist - Chuck Farmer

    Chuck Farmer is from from Upper Marlboro, Maryland and started playing bass at the age of 12. While playing in local funk and rock bands, he began to sharpen his skills as a young musician. He played in his high school stage band and went on to study music at Prince George's Community College. He joined the Air Force where he played in an Air Force rock group called Jet Stream. Chuck also played in several churches in Southern Maryland, a gospel group, and a praise band that toured the east coast.

  • Past Bassist - Mike Mason

    Mike is the bass guy, 'nuff said.

  • Past Lead Vocalist - Cherie Latson

    Cherie Latson is a native Washingtonian singer/songwriter. She has been training and practicing singing and songwriting since age nine. Her debut album, SingSpeakEasy, is currently in the works.

  • Past Vocalist - Kellye Bethea

    Kellye is new to singing with Xtract, but she loves every minute of it. Outside of music, she likes getting paid to write, talk, and travel for the purpose of writing and talking. Personally, Kellye's a D.C./Baltimore hybrid who loves museums and seafood.
